Team Challenges: Site-Specific Notes
Technical Challenge: Pinball Heroes
UNLOADING ENTRANCE: Door 9 (labeled also as the "Auditorium + Fine Arts Entrance" on the building)
The MI DI State Tournament will be using the following specific soccer balls for the "pinball" in this challenge:
Technical Challenge presentations will take place in the NEW GYM of Grand Ledge HS - all teams MUST make sure that the bottom of any prop/scenery item that touches the gym floor is non-scuffing. Please double-check that the bottoms of props/scenery will not possibly scratch a wooden floor. There may be a mat provided for teams to perform on.
IMPORTANT!!!
We are hearing that many teams at tournaments around the world are not receiving score for pinball rounds because the pinball is still touching the device used to enter the pinball into the taped lines. The pinball must fully disengage with ALL items (and be touching ONLY the ground and/or the air) when it starts crossing the taped line INTO the Pinball Playfield.
- For example: if your team is using a RAMP to roll the pinball into the Pinball Playfield, that ramp must be COMPLETELY outside of the Pinball Playfield (NOT touching the taped line), and must also be far enough from the taped line that the pinball fully stops touching the ramp BEFORE crossing the line (remember: line is defined as the vertical plane/wall extending upward from the tape on the floor.)
It is NOT interference for Team Managers to help teams understand the Rules / Guidelines and to make sure their solution is fully compliant. A Team Manager CANNOT provide the actual idea to make a solution compliant, but you can facilitate the conversation with a team where they brainstorm and determine how to make their solution compliant.
Scientific Challenge: Blast from the Past
UNLOADING ENTRANCE: Door 14 (labeled also as the "Lower West Entrance" on the building)
Scientific Challenge presentations will take place in the CHOIR ROOM of Grand Ledge HS - the performance area will be slightly larger than the guaranteed performance site size.
Fine Arts Challenge: In Motion
UNLOADING ENTRANCE: Door 14 (labeled also as the "Lower West Entrance" on the building)
Fine Arts Challenge presentations will take place in the AUDITORIUM of Grand Ledge HS - all teams MUST make sure that the bottom of any prop/scenery item that touches the stage floor is non-scuffing. Please double-check that the bottoms of props/scenery will not possibly scratch a wooden floor.
REMINDER:
A High School Auditorium is a LARGE venue, and likely much larger than what your team has been practicing in. Team Managers should ask their teams what performance basics they should remember when presenging in a very large space. The presentation area on the stage will be MUCH larger than the guaranteed 8' x 10' performance area.
Engineering Challenge: Going the Distance
UNLOADING ENTRANCE: Door 1 (labeled also as the "Main Entrance" on the building)
Engineering Challenge presentations will take place in the MEDIA CENTER of Grand Ledge HS - all teams MUST make sure that the bottom of any prop/scenery item that touches the carpeted floor will not snag the short-nap carpet.
