Each year, the Michigan Creativity Association provides scholarships for graduating High School Seniors. This Award is named after a current or previous volunteer / supporter of student creativity in Michigan.
2020 MICA Scholarship Honoree
The scholarship honoree is an individual who has made significant contributions to the creative problem-solving community in the State of Michigan, and has advanced the Destination Imagination program in some way. The honoree status is the top award that the Michigan Creativity Association can award to a volunteer of the program, and is voted on by the current MICA Board of Directors. Often, the distinguished honor of MICA Scholarship Honoree is awarded to a long-time volunteer or appraiser, previous coordinator or team manager who has continued their involvement, or community/business leader who has significantly impacted the Destination Imagination program.
The 2020 MICA Scholarship Honoree is Ron Dershem:
Ron first became involved with Destination Imagination as a team manager over 30 years ago and continues to be an important link in the Michigan Destination Imagination chain. He has held many roles over the years, including Instant Challenge appraiser, Regional Instant Challenge Master, Affiliate Instant Challenge Master, Affiliate Registration Director, and currently volunteers at the regional and affiliate levels as a Score Master. He was on the MICA Board of Directors for 10 years where he was on the team that developed the original online registration system for any DI program and administered the system for years. Ron is a huge asset to our Michigan Destination Imagination family and we are grateful for all he has done, and continues to do, for the program.
