Welcome to Region 6

Greetings! Welcome to the Michigan Creativity Association (MICA) Region 6 website! This is the place to look for information that is specific to Region 6. I would like to welcome all new Team Managers and Team Members and all those who are returning to the program this year. It's going to be a great DI year!

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. I am Denise Cotter your Region 6 Director. I have been a long time volunteer in the DI program and MICA Board of Directors, serving as Team Manager, Coordinator, Regional Challenge Master and Regional Director of Region 5 and now Region 6. I'm a great resource if you have any questions or need any additional information. I'm here to help you make this a successful season for you and our Team Members.

This season, there will be several training opportunities for Team Managers and for the Team Members too. MICA will be offering several Team Manager (TM) trainings in different locations. Please keep checking the MICA website's calendar often for updates on available sessions and other helpful-information. Take advantage of all the valuable information and trainings we offer to help you in working with your team! All trainings will be in a half-day format, which should help for those with busy, busy schedules!

We are always looking for more teams to participate in this fun and rewarding program. If you know of other schools/groups/individuals who may be interested, please let me know - I'm happy to send out informational materials and/or arrange for a presentation to let them know how to jump in! You can begin a DI program in your school with only one team or multiple teams. Michigan Destination Imagination is growing, and it's an exciting time!

Our Tournament Date and location will be at Clare Primary School in Clare MI on Saturday, February 24, 2018!

Tournament Registration will open on November 1, 2017, will close January 15, 2018. When you are ready to register here is what you need to know:

  • • Every team participating in the Region 6 Tournament must provide one volunteer Appraiser. This Appraiser must attend Appraiser training. The date and location will be at Clare Primary School on Saturday, February 10, 2018. This will certify them to act as an appraiser at our tournament. It is a two-day commitment (one half day training day and the full day tournamentday).
  • • Each team should also provide a volunteer to work a 2 hour assignment at the Region 6 Tournament. Volunteers will work areas like the sales booth, games area, score running, etc.
  • • Each team moving on to the State Finals Tournament must provide a certified Appraiser. You may want to take this into account when recruiting your appraiser. The volunteer Appraiser you recruit should be available on April 14, 2018, just in case you need them!
  • • Special Scheduling Requests: In prior years, nearly 50% of the teams requested some type of special consideration in scheduling their performance time. It is becoming nearly impossible to create a working schedule that accommodates this many requests. We ask for your help in suggesting to families that they keep the entire tournament day open, and place a priority on all team members being available to participate all day. Priority for scheduling requests will be given to: Teams that compete in more than one challenge and Team Managers who manage multiple teams. Please alert us to teams with siblings on other teams, and we will try to make those accommodations, but we cannot guarantee that every request will be able to work. Thanks for your understanding!

It is shaping up to be a terrific year to participate in DI - please let me know if you have questions. Let's get started on another fun filled DI season!
